Confirmations this year will take place at Charnock Richard, Christ Church on Wednesday 23 June at 18:00 and 19:30.   For many years we have held a confirmation eucharist in Eccleston Parish Church.  However, as a united benefice it is right to share the joys and outreach of our work with young people, so Bishop Philip will be confirming the candidates at Charnock Richard across two services to ensure social distancing and to enable as many family and supporters of the confirmands to attend as possible.  Please pray for all the candidates including Ethan Hilton from our parish.

Watch out on the Facebook page (which can be accessed by clicking the image on the right) for a live stream of the service.

Church Wardens -  On Monday last week Garry Fishwick and Gill Jamieson were installed to serve as your Church Wardens for 2021/22 at a service at Chorley St George during the Visitation to the Chorley Deanery of the Archdeacon of Blackburn, the Venerable Mark Ireland.  Archdeacon Mark preached in an engaging way about when he was a prison chaplain and what it means to be bound and restricted.  Please pray for your wardens.

The Midweek Eucharist

As restrictions are eased further some people may still be unsure about returning to church on a Sunday.  If you are missing the 08:00 on Sunday, the eucharist on Wednesday at 11:30 has a smaller congregation and may provide a more reassuring way to worship and receive communion.

The PCC will be making a decision about the service pattern at the next meeting.  As yet there have been very few responses re the 08:00 Sunday eucharist or alternatives.

As we are about to close this consultation, if you wish to offer a view or suggestion please do so as soon as possible.

Coming to church

In terms of Social Distancing NHS Test and Trace has redefined what is considered to be close contact.  It is therefore vital, whilst in church, to maintain at least 2m from those not in your support bubble.  If you are in contact with an infected person in the previous 24 hours NHS Test and Trace can require self isolation if you have been within 2m of the infected person for more than 15 minutes or within 1m for more than 60 seconds.  Please note who is within 2m of you in church as we may be asked for this information.  Also, remain vigilant, register your attendance, use hand sanitiser; wear a mask and remain two metres apart from others at all times.

Singing Since 17 May, the government has issued stricter guidance on singing in church which is more restrictive for amateur choirs than was the case immediately before 17 May.  For professional choirs there is some relaxation of the rules as long as social distancing is observed.  Please be assured we will do all we can to comply with new guidelines in order to keep you safe.

This Newsletter  It is six months since we launched this online newsletter in response to reduced numbers in church who were able to pick up the traditionally pewslip for information about what's on.  Obviously we can reach a wider audience online and provide interactive and linked content.

However, last week the number of people who opened the newsletter was the lowest level since launch, as was click rate through articles.  The number of people opening the newsletter has fallen by 20% since January 2021.

As the Parish Magazine has not been published since the beginning of the pandemic, it was hoped that we would be able to develop this newsletter to include a broader range of magazine type articles.

If we are no providing the content that interests you, or you would like to write something for inclusion for subsequent weeks, please let the wardens, PCC Secretary and Fr Andrew know.  We will gladly adjust the content to respond to your need.

Foundation Governors we have one further vacancy at our CE Primary School.  Contact Fr Andrew if you are interested and more information is available at the Blackburn Board of Education website (click here to direct you to their website) or specifically at the Governors' landing page on the Board of Education website.  More information about our Church of England Primary School can be found on their website by clicking on the school logo to the right.

Giving - your donations through our contactless terminal in church can now benefit from GiftAid if you are a UK taxpayer. That means for every £5 you donate, Eccleston St Mary’s PCC receives £6.25. To help us receive this extra benefit please register your Visa and MasterCard on the Swiftaid website (by clicking on the link or the image above) before you use the terminal in church. Please contact Eric Smith if you will to join the envelope scheme.  He has a number spare.

Also please sign up to Easyfundraising (details below) as this is such a good way to earn money for church without any effort, especially now that online purchases are increasing popular since the beginning of the pandemic.

Legacies.  Have you thought about leaving a donation to your parish church in your will.  Please speak to a Church Warden or our Treasurer about how this could be done.

Ecclesiastical Insurance runs a scheme called Trust 130.  As an insurance company they havegiven more than £430,000 to churches in the UK as part of the Trust130 campaign and now we’re extending for another year.  There is no limit on the number of donations which can be made. We could benefit from Trust130 donations of £130, if you take out anew policy with Ecclesiastical and mention St Marys, Eccleston and Trust 130:  please contact Ecclesiastical Insurance on 0800 7830 130  You can read more about the scheme by clicking the picture on the right.
